A replacement for Phil Baroni on two weeks notice, the fighter formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver took the fight to the ground, where the welterweights battled back and forth. ![]() Former TKO #1 lightweight contender, Thierry Quenneville makes his return to the cage this Friday night at XMMA 7 Inferno. Since his last loss to Hioki in TKO, Quenneville has excelled his training far beyond his hometown of Montreal, Quebec. Quenneville believes his experience and caliber of training partners will bring him back to the top and looks to win in devastating fashion against Doug Evans. Quenneville is a strong 155-pound competitor that was last seen inside the TKO cage. He fought for the TKO lightweight championship. He came out strong in the first round and was in total control of the fight until the Japanese fighter Hatsu Hioki slapped on a triangle choke to end the night and dreams for Thierry Quenneville. That fight changed Quennevilles life. He has since been training travelling and training extremely hard and has learned to be patient when in a dominant position as he was with Hioki; a situation can change in an instance! Q) MMACanada.net here with Thierry Quenneville, XMMA is on the horizon, you will be stepping into the cage very soon, how excited are you for this fight? A) I\\\'m really excited and I can\\\'t wait to fight Doug Evans this Friday. Q) Can you tell us more about your opponent Doug Evans and how you see this fight playing out? A) He looks to be a counter fighter who likes to wrestle and eventually get his opponent to the ground and try to win by submission or tko. Q) Where do you feel you have the advantage in this fight? A) I feel that I have more experience and that will play a big factor in the fight. Plus, I\\\'m sure that my stand up is a step above his! Q) In the past you have been known to train with some of the best trainers and coaches in Quebec. Give us a look into your current training camp and who has been helping you prepare for this war. A) I started my training camp in Albuquerque with the Jackson team. I was with Georges St.Pierre (GSP), David The Crow Loiseau, Jon Chaimberg my strength & conditioning coach, Donald Cowboy Cerrone, Nate The Great Marquardt and many more in December. In January, some of them came down to Montreal before there fight to train with us. Training camp resumed in Febuary as I trained with Georges, Vigneault, Mark Colangelo and other guys from Tristar, the Grant brother boxing gym, the olympic wrestling team and at Jsport conditionning with Jon Chaimberg. Q) You have been in some very tough battles in your career. Where do you see your career headed in the next 2-5 years?
